Lucky 13

Today is my and Jacob’s 13th wedding anniversary.  That’s 13 years of marriage, 17 years together, and 25 years of friendship.  Gulp!  It always surprises me when I stop to add it up.  I’m pretty sure we’re not that old!  Oh well, I count myself blessed to have known my husband in that way and I’m pretty sure he feels the same.  We’ve had lots of fun, plenty of love, some hardship along the way, beautiful babies, and all the “things” we’ve needed.

I still am so glad God put Jacob and I together all those years ago.  It always just felt so right and no matter the situations around us, it still does.  I know we drive each other nutty from time to time, but ultimately we still fall back on our friendship and love the opportunities we have to be together.  We joke about leaving the kids to take trips together like we used to in our first 8 years of marriage, but we happen to love our little boys enough to not do that…yet.  Our day will come :)

So, here we are at 13 years of marriage.  I suppose 13 is supposed to be unlucky, but we started dating on Friday the 13th and look where it went, so we are calling it lucky and hoping for the best :)  We could use a little good luck after a few years of difficulties along the way, but we’re off to a bad start because Jacob’s truck broke down and left him stranded today.  Thankfully he has a good network of people to help him haul him and his equipment trailer home so he could return with a borrowed truck to haul his truck home, which is no small feat when your truck is as big as his is.  Overall, though, our struggles have been petty and God has been good in all the areas that matter.

(Now that I think of it, this marks the end of year 13 and we’re entering the 14th year, which is a multiple of lucky 7, so we should be good to go!  It’s a good thing we don’t really rely on luck because that could get confusing and disheartening.)

It seems like these years have been grouped into phases with schooling, work, and family, among other things.  While I thought those other phases were crazy at times, these little boys, mixed in with ever changing career situations, have made for the most beautifully wild ride, thus far.  God definitely knew what he was doing when he paired me with Jacob to take this ride because I’m sure there is no one else I could do it better with.  We’ve always been a great team and I’ll always cherish our life together.

And the best part is that it’s still really just the beginning and we’re always looking forward with new dreams!  Bring on the 14th year!
