One Week Checkup

Last week we had our third pediatrician visit of the week for Joshua’s routine one week checkup.  It was good in the fact that he’s healthy with no problems, but he’d only gained one ounce and is still a bit jaundiced.  He weighed 7 # 7 oz.  The pediatrician chalked it up to being circumcised on Wednesday causing him to sleep a lot and not nurse well.

First School Photos

Josiah recently had his first school pictures taken.  He tends to do a crazy “cheese” smile and not look at the camera when we take pictures, so we worked with him for days getting him to smile a nice smile on cue and warned him that we wouldn’t buy them unless he tried to make them look good (mean parents, I know!).  Apparently they also practiced smiles at school.  The teacher told me he was shy at first, but he watched other kids do it and the photographer was too funny not to smile, so he did well.  We think they turned out great and we’re as proud as can be!  These are the first good professional pictures taken by a stranger that we have had.  He’s always been intimidated by the equipment and strangers.

We chose to have the top one with the happiest smile printed, though the background on the second looks nicer.  Josiah was too proud of them both to choose.  Oh, and if you look closely, you can see where his chin was scabbed from a recent fall.  Boys will be boys! :)

Pumpkin Patch!

I’m taking a break from baby posts to try to catch up on a few other of our activities.

Don’t tell Josiah, but while he was in VPK one day, Annie and I took Elijah, Henry, and Emalyn to the pumpkin patch.  Here’s some of their fun.

Three Day Pediatrician Checkup

Joshua had his first real pediatrician visit yesterday.  Thankfully Jacob joined me as I always find it next to impossible to answer a million questions while undressing kids and keeping siblings under control :)  I don’t know how they expect you do to that!  But that’s another story…

Joshua checked out perfectly despite the possible concerns of jaundice and GBS infection that hung over our heads in the hospital (more on that as I get time to sit down and record those memories).  We are so thankful that neither of those issues materialized into anything needing further care that would threaten his health or keep up from thoroughly enjoying his first days of life.

Here’s his stats:

Height         20 inches     50 percentile

Weight          7 lb 6 oz      25 percentile

Head                34 cm        20 percentile

Tomorrow is circumcision day.  Yikes!

Joshua Adin Has Arrived!

045 - CopyJoshua joined us at 11:59 am on November 15, 2013.  He weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was 20 inches long.  We are so excited to have this little man and he is already proving to be sweet.

Any guesses as to hair color?  Is he brunette like Josiah, a bright red head like Elijah, or is he unique?  (Though you can’t tell from this picture, I promise he has a lower lip!)

I know several of you wanted to hear about his arrival.  I’ll post it here as I get a chance.

40 Plus Weeks

I had my post due date OB appointment yesterday and everything is still going well.  Though I’m progressed compared to a “normal” persons standards, I haven’t progressed much past last week’s check and it’s pretty normal for me.  With all the Braxton Hicks activity I’ve had for the past week, I’m pretty surprised that this was the case, but oh well, I’m content to wait.  There was more talk about induction for medical purposes, but I’ll write more about that later.

As for the checkup, I continue to gain weight (of course!) and Joshua’s heart rate was back up in the 130’s, so that made me happy.  If I make it another week, a thought that blows my mind, Dr. Million will do another ultrasound to just check that all is well.

Meanwhile, Jacob, the planner, waits on pins and needles.  After about 5 days of hesitancy to be away from me and doing lots of work at home, he is getting stir crazy enough that he braved going to check his bees this afternoon which took him away from home for 2 hours in a direction away from the hospital.  Gasp!  I feel sorry for him knowing that he needs to get me to the hospital ASAP when I go into labor and feeling helpless in making a plan for that.

Josiah is also on pins and needles of excitement.  It seems if Jacob has to answer his questions one more time about when we are going to the hospital or when Joshua will arrive, then he might just explode :)  Josiah is very excited about who will be visiting him when it happens, which he thinks should happen “after naps” on a daily basis.  Then there’s the “babies”.  The boys, especially Elijah, have been obsessive about playing with their babies.  Yesterday we had to put diapers on their babies and they played with them in the tent we made in the living room.  They did it boy-style, though, because they protected them from animals with guns while wearing camo vests.

So, we’re just waiting, getting some rest, and trying to have some fun with it.  Eventually we’ll meet Joshua face to face.

Maternity Photos

018 - Copy

Jacob was patient and wonderful enough to take some maternity photos of me with the boys at 36 weeks.  We’ve done it with my Uncle for the last two pregnancies and I wasn’t going to do it again because a pregnant belly is a pregnant belly, right?  But then I got to thinking that Elijah would be in these and that would be special, so we decided to do some simple ones ourselves.  The one picture I really wanted was with the boys’ hands on my belly while they kiss it at the same time.  Sounds idyllic, I know, but they actually do it unprovoked multiple times a day.  It is so sweet and I wanted to capture it.  I imagined two sets of puckered lips touching my belly at the same time with faces and belly visible.  However, actually succeeding in coordinating the movements of two rambunctious boys to get just what I envisioned proved impossible.  You’ll see the attempts scattered throughout :)

Oh, and there are way more pictures with Josiah or of him alone, but that’s not because he’s a favorite, he’s just the more cooperative of the two!
