Makin’ Mommy Smile

It’s sinking in after all.

Josiah has always loved books!  He loves when we read to him and enjoys looking at them on his own.  Today he started “reading” them on his own.  I could hear him mumbling things and making up stuff to go along with the pictures and he even leaned over towards Elijah to share his story, but what came next melted my heart.  I was making our lunches and he walked over to me looking down at his open book as though reading and repetitively said “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…”  Ahhh…so he does know that memory verse we have been working on and better yet, it is on his mind at random times!

Silly Goose!

Jacob always sings songs (among other things) with Josiah before bed and I join them if I finish up with Elijah in time.  Tonight we were all laying in Josiah’s toddler bed (yes, it is a tight fit, but Josiah loves it and so do I!) singing song after song.  During “Zacheus” he inserted one of his favorite terms during Jesus’ line “…Zacheus, you come down, Silly Goose, for I’m going to your house today…”  We cracked up!

Blueberries!

Jacob and I went blueberry picking a few weeks ago and left the boys with mom so that we could get a good supply of them to last us the year, but Josiah loved picking them last year so I took him to our neighbor’s blueberry patch (is patch the right term?) tonight for a quick trip for him to enjoy.  Well, while he enjoyed himself a bit, he wasn’t nearly as excited about it this year.  I had to show him the berries and encourage him to pick and eat.  He did, however, insist on me dumping all my berries in his bucket constantly and was excited to take them all to his sitter’s house to share.  Halfway through it he started saying “I think it is time to go home now, Mommy” and “I think we should head to the car”.  He’s the one who loves blueberries and I don’t eat them, but he was the one dragging me away!  Anyway, just because he was ready to get home doesn’t mean he wasn’t proud to have the berries!  He refused to unhand the bucket and as soon as we got home, he set himself up on the couch and fed himself and Elijah (who can eat some serious berries).

I finally tore Josiah away from the blueberries long enough to bathe him with a promise that he could have more afterwards.  My boys gathered around the bucket for some goodies. 018 - Copy 022 - Copy Elijah acts like they are candy and stuffs his mouth by the handful if we aren’t careful.  Not surprisingly, he cried when we took them away.

Spring Has Sprung!

There is a pasture in Hampton near where Jacob keeps some of his bees that is filled with flowers in the spring.  Jacob passes it frequently and had mentioned going for pictures several times.  This out of the way place, complete with pecan trees, a small vineyard, large woodpiles, and an old barn and tractor, is actually quite popular for picture taking around here and cars lined the road with people making the most of the photo op.  We went a little late in the season so there weren’t as many flowers, but it was still pretty and our boys love any reason to be outside.

Taking boys to play in flowers is not quite the delightful experience as I imagine it would be with girls since Josiah sweats profusely and pulled the flowers out by the handful!  Many of these first few pictures are grainy as I took them with our cheap camera and then cropped them from much larger originals, but the content is sweet.

A Visit With Granny And Papa

Josiah took his first trip away from home and went to spend two nights with Granny and Papa last week.  Jacob had some work to do down that way, so he took him along and Granny and Papa brought him back two days later.  He was so excited to play on the farm and he had a blast!  We missed him, but Elijah enjoyed his temporary only child status.  Here are some pictures Granny took:
