Joshua is one month old and this update is late. I can’t keep up.
Joshua has survived a full month with two older brothers. Rather than being beat up, though, he’s been smothered with love. We’ve all fallen for this little man. Joshua is incredibly precious and deserves all the love we each feel for him. He also happens to be as cute as he can be.
Here’s some smothering love:They like to bring him toys and use toys that play music to keep him happy.
Joshua is doing well and is, overall, very easy going. I’m glad for that since he has had to be more on the go than Josiah or Elijah ever had to be. For instance, his first week home we had something to do everyday. We struggle a bit with going down for morning naps, which is mostly my fault since I find it difficult to do everything I need to before putting him down so he ends up being overtired, but we’re working on smoothing out those kinks and it’s improving. Otherwise he ‘s a pretty good napper. His night time sleep is pretty variable ranging from 3 to 5 hour stretches. I figure some variability is better than forming a habit that is hard to break.
The boys often fight over who gets to lay on the side Joshua is facing.
As far as eating goes, he’s not quite the pig Josiah was with nursing, but he has a better appetite than Elijah. Joshua also got his first bottle this week, just in time for me to have a work meeting and my first half day back at work this week (WAY to early!). He did great with it, but we need to practice because Elijah did great the first time, then refused for awhile after that.
Josiah begged to have this job, but Jacob kept it to himself and enjoyed it thoroughly. Joshua did a great job.
Joshua is such a cutie and he’s starting to really reward us with smiles. He barely started cooing and giving small smiles just before 3 weeks of age, but right at 4 weeks, those smiles started to get bigger and more frequent. They are beautiful!
I caught the tail end of a smile here.
It’s not exactly a smile, but I love this!
A few firsts:
First pre-nap storytime with Mommy and the boys.
First family walk/ride. A common occurrence.
First bath. His umbilical stump fell off on Thanksgiving when he was 2 weeks old, so he finally got a bath. He loved it!
It’s been a good (and tiring) month and we’re so happy to have Joshua with us. I can’t believe our little newborn isn’t a newborn anymore, but I can’t wait to see these three little boys grow up together. Though we’re only a month in, I’ve been relieved to find that the transition going from two to three kids has been easier for me than going from one to two kids was. We’ve had more fun and have enjoyed watching older boys love “their baby”. There are so many sweet times awaiting us.
