Josiah’s Buddy

Josiah has a new buddy these days.  They’ve been acquainted his entire life, but he has recently become buddies.  They spend a ton of time together and sometimes this buddy get him into trouble, sometimes mischief, but mostly they work well together to be a great pair.  His buddy has done a lot of maturing along with Josiah this past year or two and he’s benefitted greatly from this buddy’s presence.  They have a close relationship, but sometimes argue about what should be done vs. what they want to do.

Who is this buddy?  Why, it’s his mind.  His brain.  Yes, I said his brain.  Josiah now calls his brain his “buddy”.  He totally cracks me up! :)  He first told me this when I asked how he learned something that I didn’t know he knew and he said his buddy taught him.  I asked who his buddy was and he said his mind.  I was mystified and asked if his teacher refers to student’s minds as their buddy and he said no.  I asked where he got that idea and he said he just thought about it and decided his brain was his buddy because it helps him figure things out.  I thought that was pretty insightful.  He’s been referring to his brain as his buddy ever since.  It is pretty obvious that he thinks intently about things.  He always has and he’s always been very observant.  I hope he keeps approaching life in this calculated way.  It may just keep him out of trouble!

In contrast, Elijah learns everything from his “baby”, his beloved blue stuffed bear.  Most of his learning happens in his bed when he’s supposed to be sleeping.  He tells us all the things baby taught him when he gets up.  As a side note, when I woke him from naps today and I was laying with him in bed, he told me that I deserved some fun time with him.  I guess he’s using positive reinforcement on me.
