It’s Just You And Me Now

When Josiah started going to school before Joshua was born, Elijah used to feel left out not getting to ride in Daddy’s truck every morning and I felt a bit left out because I missed out on dropping my little man off on his new adventure.  I started a new habit of turning to Elijah after they had gone and saying, “it’s just you and me now, Elijah,” in efforts to make our time sound more special to him.

Due to Elijah being a bit clingy to me in those months, I worried how he’d do when Joshua arrived.  As Joshua’s arrival grew closer I realized that I couldn’t make that statement anymore and that it might upset Elijah to have to share that time, so I stopped saying it.  Well, I Elijah just picked up where I left off and said, “it’s just you and me now, Mommy,” every morning.  It was too sweet, but I started thinking of a way to change things to include Joshua in a positive way.

I shouldn’t have put any thought into it because once Joshua arrived, Elijah changed it to “it’s just you and me and our babies now, Mommy.”  Too cute.  He, of course, was referring to “Bear”.  In the last few months, Elijah has renamed his baby “Gouda” after a baby mouse (think gouda cheese) on an episode of his favorite show “Imagination Movers,” which we thought was so cute when he first said it.  Now every morning one of us says, “it’s just you and me and our babies, Joshua and Gouda.”  :)  I love my sweet little red head!
