Bedtime With Daddy

Usually Jacob puts Josiah to bed while I put Elijah to bed and that will be true until Elijah is weaned.  I know the gist of their nightly routine and I crash the party from time to time to get some Josiah love.  And when Jacob is away we have our own little routine, but tonight I couldn’t help but smile, and even laugh, at what I witnessed when I crashed the party.

I came in after milk, bible stories, prayer, and a few songs (yes, it is a long, sweet process).  When I came in we sang a few more songs with all of us laying on one little toddler bed.  Then, Jacob proceeded to say goodnight to all the stuffed animals before telling Josiah goodnight.  It went like this:

“Giraffe, goodnight and be quiet.  No loud noises tonight.”

“Rabbit, you sleep tight.”

“Horsey…where’s your face? (it was dark)  There it is.  You behave and go to bed.”

“Other Horsey…ugh, where’s your face?  No horsing around tonight!  Goodnight”

“Josiah – “

“Daddy, tell Thomas (the train) goodnight.”

“I will Josiah, but I’m telling you first.  Josiah, I love you and I hope you have a good night.  I’ll see you in the morning.” (kisses)

“Daddy, tell Thomas!”

“I will, Josiah”….(walks across the room to Thomas who Josiah put to bed on a pillow on the floor under a blanket.)  “Thomas, you be quiet tonight and go to sleep.  No choo-chooing out of you tonight, you hear me?”

I was smiling through all of it, but the “choo-chooing” part made me laugh!  He’s a wonderful Daddy and so accommodating, too :)

So sweet!!! This is my dream for Henry and Chad, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't go like that. Maybe Jacob can give some lessons ;)
