Our little man, Elijah, turned one week old today. He’s such a great little guy! I’ve written all about his coming and how Josiah has responded, but I haven’t said much about Elijah himself – probably because we are only just now getting to know him. I’m almost afraid to claim it, but it seems we’ve been blessed with two easy babies, with the second being even easier than the first (of course, that could be due to our own learning curve!). I’d like to claim full responsibility for their ways, but I doubt we have had that much influence in one week. Elijah sleeps well at night waking only once to eat in addition to his late night and early morning feedings. Even then I have to fully rouse him to eat. He’s only had one bout of real crying (other than when provoked!) and that was relatively short lived and cured by simple methods. So now that I’ve bragged, we’ll see if we still feel this way once he comes out of his sleepy newborn stupor!
He came out immediately screaming, but Daddy was there to comfort…
Physically speaking, he has blondish or sandy brown hair and his eyes appear to truly be blue rather than the dark gray/blue most newborns have. His hair looks darker every day to me, but Jacob says no. I think it will darken with time. Where would he have gotten truly blonde hair? Time will tell for both features. As for facial structures, the only thing we can make out is my nose, we think.
See the nose? This is our second meeting together. Yes, my hair is a rat’s nest, but I have an excuse!
I wasn’t in labor long enough for him to get a cone head!
As for other characteristics, Elijah is not as aggressive an eater as Josiah was, but then he doesn’t spit up quite as much either! He doesn’t seem to have much in the way of GI upset and is quite content. He takes a pacifier, but isn’t needy about it…yet. My only complaint is that he always catches me off guard when he pees during diaper changes, but since that is true for all little boys, I suppose we’ll still keep him.
Josiah is great at sharing his toys…too great.
We were excited last night to find Elijah’s umbilical stump in his sleeper at his 4am feeding. We had a mini celebration because it took Josiah’s 3 weeks to fall off since it was held on by scar tissue and had to be clipped off. We celebrated his umbilicus falling off with cookies and milk, then fell into a stupor. Not really, but it does sound good right now.
So far Elijah has been to the library, the doctor, Grandma’s house, on a long walk with the family, to “Pioneer Days” in High Springs, and out to eat at Conestogas with some friends. I think he slept through it all! If all goes well, he’ll be attending church for the first time tomorrow.
