Elijah has the craziest imagination that keeps us laughing at all times. At any given time he’s using it. He’s either sharing stories or crazy little thoughts or he’s telling himself stories as he plays by himself. He also has quite the vocabulary. He uses big words all the time that I have no idea where he got them. He even uses them correctly!
Today Elijah started talking to me about giving me a tremendous treat. It’s not uncommon for his imagination to be so wild that I can’t figure out what he’s talking about or how to respond appropriately. This was one of those times. Eventually he pretended to pull a hat off his head, reached deep within, and pulled out a ball and a target before replacing the “hat”. (This is a move that I know he picked up from Imagination Movers.) Then he handed me the “ball” and told me I needed to play the game and hit the “target”. I complied and pretended to throw it as hard as I could. He got a big grin on his face and said, “Yay! You opened the gate!”
Then we proceeded through the gate and moved through some obstacles of chairs and into his “house”. I had to move through a number of pretend barriers by playing more games and doing all the right things, including wearing “curly mustaches” that he repeatedly took on and off my lip. I was NOT allowed to pretend that it hurt when he pulled it off. We finally reached the last room in the house where I partook of many “tremendous treats”. He enjoyed the fact that I played along giving a different reaction to every treat he fed me. There were MANY treats (to the point that I eventually had to escape by claiming Joshua needed a diaper change!) that he gathered with great effort from every corner of the room.
This kid is the king of crazy, but it’s a good kind of crazy. Along with the crazy, he is also very sweet and loving. He constantly kisses, hugs, says he loves you, and takes care of us in whatever way he sees fit at any given moment. Tonight I was leaving to go to a meeting and he insisted I take his most beloved new (old) phone that Grandma gave him in case I “got in trouble”. It is an old style phone that has a pocket clip case and he clipped it onto my pants as I left. Jacob dared me to wear it to my dinner meeting :) I wasn’t brave enough.
We love our firecracker!
