Vacation

I recently had “vacation” (meaning that Dr. Spinosa worked extra hard so that I can have a few days off, then I worked extra hard so she could be off).  Vacation in my world doesn’t tend to involve actually going anywhere, but instead just catching up on things.  This time Jacob went to Ohio for three days for work during my week off.  He’s been working like crazy lately and missed out on most of the time I had off, so I took lots of pictures for him.  Anyway, our camera went caput a few weeks ago…ahem, coincidentally after Josiah took pictures with it… so Jacob picked up a cheapo one until we had time to do our homework and shop for one we want.  We have been planning on a new one since before Elijah was born anyway.  I took some pictures to document my time with the boys while I was off.  Here are some of our activities.

Day 1: Vacay started off great and I took lots of pictures.

These are the beautiful faces I had as company…040 - Copy 148 - Copy

The beautiful clear sky we enjoyed…008If I could let you feel the cool temperature and nice breeze, you’d appreciate it even more!

The warm sun we got our Vitamin D therapy from…009

Us on a walk… 062 - CopyBad boys standing in the wagon as soon as I stopped!

And the things we saw on those walks…034 035 - Copy My favorite weed (weird, I know!)  It is red and it fills entire pastures in the spring.  It’s so pretty!

073 The neighbor’s cows that Josiah begs to see just so he can get a longer walk out of me :)

074Pretty flowers!

020Another pretty weed!  Josiah walked around our property picking them out.

028 The spider (can you see it) whose legs we counted while checking on the progress of the blackberry bushes.

Day two: another nice day.

We took another walk (a daily affair around here), blew bubbles, and played on the swing, among other things.

Day 3:

Something happened that has never happened since becoming a parent…I had the day to myself!  I sent the boys to Mrs. Cindy’s so that I could work on paperwork that would require my full attention and most of the day.  Though Jacob will sometimes take Josiah with him to run errands, I’ve never not had them in my care for more than a short time while I am at home.  I almost called it off and felt guilt and mild uneasiness, but I made myself go through with it knowing that it I needed it in so many ways and that it was day one of Jacob being out of town and that I’d have my fill by day three anyway.  So, off they went!  It was a nice day, but I still didn’t get as much done as hoped.

Day 4: single parenthood was setting in.

We met Star, Nathan, and Linda (Star’s mom) at the splash park for a bit of fun…after which, my car broke down :(  The boys had fun, but it was pretty busy at the park, so they spent a lot of time just watching the older kids and being careful to not be run over.

Josiah wanted us all to wear hats.  Poor guy has kind of a big head and I guess he needs a new hat because his just sits perched on his head!

Day 5: a Sunday and Daddy came home!  Whew!  It was his birthday, but since he didn’t get home until after bedtime, we didn’t do anything.

Day 6: we put the car in the shop (to stay for days!) and then went to get Elijah’s one year pictures made (a little late, I know) then went out to eat for Jacob’s birthday.  We enjoyed a yummy, but simple dinner with ice cream later.

Day 7: the last day of outdoor play before returning to work.  We pulled out a sprinkler/beach ball for some water fun!

So, after taking all these pictures, I realize that the cheap camera does ok, but I still want a good one :)  Also, I realize after looking at the pictures that neglecting the grass in our yard since Josiah was born was a bad idea because now they have none to play on!  We’ll have to work on that.

Good for you!!!! You are such a wise mommy!!! What precious memories! And yes Elijah and the cat look more related than he and Josiah but I know Elijah's pain-I was the only one with red hair too! Incredibly cute!

Wow, sounds like a busy week! A day to yourself.. wow!! Sounds like a very wise decision, I may have to try that sometime, too, or maybe I need to wait until I have two ;) You may have also inspired me to get the sprinkle/hose out in the yard, looks like fun :) Elijah looks so grown up, love that he matches the cat.
